Ellisif Wessel

Photographer and author with a socialpolitical view on the conditions of the Sami. Wessel photographed the Sami people in the late 1800's and early 1900's. She documented the extreme poverty the Sami lived under and additionally she documented Karelian Sami migrating to Finnmark in Norway. The poverty the Sami (particularly in Eastern Finnmark, Norway) lived under is additionally well documented in different official documents of Norway.

About Me

My photo
Saami
I write a hypothetical blog about ancient religion (likely an early form of Buddhism with sun worship) and culture from Iron Age about 500 BCE to 800 CE and early medieval in Scandinavia and compares it with the ancient Buddhism of Asia. There is not enough time to proof-read the blog, but please do not "throw out the baby with the bath water" for that reason. http://oldgoths.blogspot.com/ You can read another of my blogs and see lots of photos about the Sami people of the Nordic and north-western Russian areas in another blog: http://www.saamiblog.blogspot.com/ The Sami are likely a merge between the ancient indigenous Laplanders of the Nordic areas and the later arriving ancient Goths or Göter to the same areas. Also, I make a blog with pictures of the art from ancient Indo-Greek Gandhara: http://gandharan.blogspot.com/
